Bloomberg reports that for the first time in nearly twenty years, the Call of Duty franchise will not release a game on an annual schedule. Instead, the series will go dormant for 2023, though we’re sure they’ll make up the difference by loading whatever game comes next with lots of DLC material. “Games as a service” and all that.
So why skip a year? Does it have something to do with the Microsoft buyout? No, not really — the takeover hasn’t been finalized yet; Activision is still technically independent.
