Any decent, free Video Editing Software out there?

I know there are a lot of AMV makers out there, and I'm just wondering, what kind of software would you find appropriate for this, other than the casual iMovie or Windows Movie Maker. My brother does have Adobe Premiere, but I'm really not at liberty to use it.

I was just wondering if there were any good, decent, at the same time, free video editing programs out there. They might not be as powerful, but if they can get the job done a lot better than WMM and whatnot, then I say, let's do it!

At least, something that can work with layers and sounds and stuff.

VirtualDub is good for editing large movie files down into shorter clips. I don't know if you can use it to edit an entire music video though.
