What’s better than Amityville and Poltergeist? Both at once! …actually it’s in name only; Breaking Glass Pictures’ new horror flick has obviously thrown two untrademarkable words together as a marketing trick to get attention. This kind of thing used to thrive in video rental stores.
Both Amityville and Poltergeist are haunted house movies, and so is Amityville Poltergeist. A young man has taken a housesitting job in an airy, shadowy mansion. His only immediate worry is that someone will try to break in, as he isn’t trained at performing security-guard duties. The creepy old woman who owns the place — because you wouldn’t expect anything different — tells him it shouldn’t be a problem, because it’s the things already in the house that should concern him more. That should’ve set off alarm bells in his head, but it doesn’t and he falls right into the trap everyone expected him to.
