4Kids to promoted YuGiOh ZeXal at Licensing Expo

Via ANN

It's seems 4Kids are C*&kblocking TV Tokyo and NAS from going to the Expo to promote the series to prospective buyers themselves since they argue "We have an ongoging lawsuit, so you can't shop the license to anyone else until it's settled".

4Kids plans to air ZeXal this fall on the CW's Toonzai block with a 500-episode special also in the works. They also have two other series they will promote.

As you may remember, TV Tokyo and NAS are suing 4Kids for fraudulently underpaying them and where going to revoke the right to the YuGiOh series from them, but they filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and are fighting the case.

Given the facts of the situation, I literally don't understand how they can promote a future Yu-Gi-Oh series.

Right? Their license and rights to promote YGO was removed. They're breaching some sort of contract and probably digging a bigger hole for themselves.

Also given the situation, I don't get HOW they can put a licensing block on a franchise their on the verge of loosing...

How could they even do this, any are they anyways? They're screwed and should back away and give up. No wise Japanese licensor will EVER give them another popular series because of the Yu-Gi-Oh madness and American licensors/distributors won't want to be associated with such hacks.

Hopefully Funimation snatches the rights to Yugioh and redubs GX and 5D's . Zexal can wait for some time. Because this mess will **** up the franchise in the Western English speaking world .

They stripped the rights from them along time ago. They need to just do the honorable thing before they get NO business whatsoever. Besides, does anyone watch the show ?

Only Duel Monsters. I continued GX via subs. I mainly watched Duel Monsters for Dan Green's Yami Yugi voice. That guy is fucking amazing....

No one has a manlier voice than Dan Green's Yami Yugi voice...

As much as everyone hates 4kids, TV Tokyo doesn't have any right to shop the license when they know 4Kids still owns the rights.

That's like your wife cheating, you file for divorce and taking the children and the car before the judge makes a ruling. You can't do that.

4Kids still owns the license. Therefore, they can promote it and air it. Nothing wrong with that until they lose the case.

But if they did lose the case then they'd stop airing it mid way. So there either so sure there going to win the case or there just trying to squeeze every last bit of money out of Yu-Gi-Oh! before they lose.

It's the latter, but I can't be the only one who doesn't think TV Tokyo should sue for THAT money, too, if they are able.

At this point, 4Kids is just doing everything they can to stay alive. What they're doing now is just wrong, but it's probably all they can do if they really think they'll beat this bankruptcy and earn back TV Tokyo's trust. I think they should just realize that they're in over their head and give up the rights like they did with One Piece.

O.k. how is it that they are planning to dub Zexal when the movie of the first 3 series showed a much older Judai/Jaden from season 4 when they haven't even dubbed it yet?!

How is Jaden from "season 4"? And Zexal takes place even farther in the future than 5D's.

he's referring to season 4 of GX which was never released in the us because 4kids didn't dub it

4kids is probably hoping kids won't notice the difference in Judai's personality and they can handwave it.

Also, he wasn't "much" older; a year at most.

Honestly not surprising that they are clinging to Yu-Gi-Oh! I mean, they tried to recapture the Yu-Gi-Oh! success with Chaotix and Dinosaur King, but with only mild success. YGO is really their only highly profitable franchise now.
