Kamen-Rider-Saber.png

The trademark bot has come up with the goods again! Toei has filed an application for a trademark on the term 'Kamen Rider Saber.'

According to people on twitter who know more than me about Japanese (i.e. anything) Toei are using the kanji for "holy" and "blade" to make the word 'Saber'.

Don't get too excited just yet, it's usually at least another month before we get any more details. Between COVID-19 and Bandai generally tightening up on leaks, it could be even longer than usual.

Ah, you beat me to it! I only just found out.

Well, a lot of people think there will be a medieval euro-centric knight thing, but I almost wonder if there's a saber/ Saba pun going on & it will focus on south Asian culture. Doesn't Japan have a lot of immigrants from the Vietnam/ Thailand/ Cambodia region today? Might make sense.

Welp so much for the Double Rider rumor. It's Kamen Rider Saber! I would like to think that this is just another creative pun by Toei but its looking like a Medieval times Kamen Rider. Which is not bad, its different, we'd had Medieval inspired Riders before like Knight and Brave. I wouldn't mind if Saber has a cool new sword for every form change.

What are you going on about? First off, Fate/Zero was an amazing series. I watched it earlier this year and it was worth every grain of hype. Secondly, What does Fate have to do with kamen Rider?

I've never watched or played anything in the Fate franchise (I get the impression that you need to be familiar with the visual novels to really "get" the anime?) and even I'm aware that it has a prominent character called Saber.

I've already seen quite a few jokes about it in responses to the Rider trademark news. People thinking it's very witty to post tweets saying "New Rider revealed" and a photo of (what I assume to be) her, etc. I would have gone all "old man hates this newfangled rubbish" on them, but I guess it makes a change from those people who post a slightly blurred screenshot of an Armor Hero and claim that it's a leaked photo.

It's your "Winger" comment that I don't understand though. Was that a rumor going round before this news came out?

Nope. Fate/Zero gives you all of the info you need throughout it's show as it is the first story in the timeline. Not surprised given it's from the genius who have us Kamen Rider Gaim and Psycho Pass.

A few months ago the rumored title going around the internet was Kamen Rider Winger.

Well, speaking of the supposed female rider, someone on Rangerboard asked what a female rider in a European Medieval themed series would be that would make sense, so, since I can't answer them & for my own amusement:

Joan of Arc (albeit, that would probably mean she would have to die by the end.)

A queen (several different "warrior queen" types are kind of an underappreciated part of European history. Sometimes, there was just no king & the queen had to fulfill both roles herself. Hell, the ruler who single-handedly formed what is now Russia was Tzarina Catherine the Great, I think.)

A seer (my mind's stuck on a sort of nomadic gypsy/con woman sort of character. It's not exactly medieval, given the withcraft thing. On the other hand, someone gave an Inari reference & the Redwall novels always equated foxes with either the gypsy or ancient Celtic stereotypes.)

Fate/Zero was an amazing series.
It had atrocious animation, painfully slow pacing, no likeable characters, awful writing, a bland art style, and inconsistent run times with its episodes.
and it was worth every grain of hype.
It was one of the only 15 anime I've ever given a 1/10. Type Moon ties with Trigger and the guy that made Mob Psycho for biggest cancer in anime today.
What does Fate have to do with kamen Rider?
The memes.

It's cancerous and /a/ only likes it for the easy reaction images and the sheer amount porn that came out of it. Watch Demonbane instead, it's not only watchable but the only 10/10 worthy eroge adaption.
given it's from the genius who have us Kamen Rider Gaim
Even ignoring that Gaim was a bad series Gen is nowhere near "genius" like Go Nagai, Mitsuo Fukada, Shoji Kawamori, Tadao Nagahama, or Masami Obari. If Shin Godzilla did not exist his trilogy would undeniably be the absolute worst thing to come out of the Godzilla franchise and he single handedly turned an entire genre into an edgelord fest for the entirety of a decade because some garbage he was involved in got the popular in the wheat err I mean west. I say this as someone that considers Future Diary to be one of the best anime ever made and considers Gargantia well made, he helped make the industry worse and did far more damage to it than a hundred Shinji Aobas ever could.
