Easy. Much of the story was stripped and in comparison, the 80's anime was far superior in my opinion due to its adherence to the manga, Osamu's involvement. The only thing I dislike from either is the obsession with the Atlas story-line where there are others more worthy to be tread out of the 20 volumes.

What in the name of Tezuka was wrong with the 2003 Astro Boy version other than the missteps done in the US Dub? I thought it was for the most a solid anime (a million times better than titles like Naruto, Bleach and DBZ IMO)
