Claudia Black Leaves Ahsoka Season Two

Claudia Black has gotten to play a lot of cool people, most significantly Aeryn Sun from Farscape. But her days as a Nightsister may have come to an end. Multiple news outlets are reporting Black is leaving the Disney+ series Ahsoka and will not return for its second season, now in production. The reason? No bad blood. It’s on location and it’s too expensive to travel. “[Disney] could not pay me what I needed to be paid as a single mother to keep all my responsibilities going at home in Los Angeles, because they were filming in London,” Black told the press. “It was not something that they could make happen.” Yeah, I never understand decisions like this from gazillion-dollar conglomerates either. Reminds me of the Silicon Valley episode where the Hooli CEO says “This is all I can afford” and then gets into his giant jet and the afterburner knocks down some children. Anyway, Claudia says she would have if she could have, but instead had to “bow out.” Claudia played Klothow, one of the three Nightsisters called the Great Mothers who reside on the planet of Peridea. They’re named after the Greek goddesses of fate, and claim to […]

I think it is disappointing, but I actually appreciate seeing an actor put personal life before a job. It reminds me of how many productions expect people to stretch their lives to fit filming schedules. I liked the Nightsisters in Ahsoka because they brought a different energy to the story. Losing one of them weakens the group dynamic for me. I hope the writers do something clean like letting them remain off-screen instead of forcing a messy solution.

This feels like a practical decision. If the studio will not support her needs, then leaving is the reasonable move. I do not see any issue with recasting her because the makeup covers most of the face. Many characters in Star Wars have changed actors before and still worked.

I think Disney should have solved this. The cost of long-distance travel for one actor is tiny compared to what they spend on effects and marketing. It feels careless. Claudia Black is known for strong genre performances, and she brought experience that is not easy to replace. I hope they do not just write off all three Nightsisters because of this. Their story has potential.

I do not mind her leaving. I liked her performance, but her character was not essential for me. If they want, they can say the Nightsisters stayed on Dathomir and focus on other parts of the plot. There is already a lot going on in Ahsoka.

For me, this highlights how tough the entertainment industry is for parents, especially single ones. People think actors live comfortable lives all the time, but many deal with the same kinds of challenges we face. I respect her decision. I hope she returns to another sci-fi project later because she always adds something interesting to the screen.

This situation makes me confused about Disney’s priorities. If they want continuity and quality, they should support the people who deliver it. Claudia Black is not a small name. She has a strong history in science fiction. Losing her because of travel costs feels unnecessary.

I really liked the idea of the Nightsisters being tied into Ahsoka’s storyline, and Claudia Black helped make that believable. Her voice and delivery fit the role perfectly. It is disappointing that financial logistics caused her to leave, but personal responsibilities should always come first. I think the writers can still keep the atmosphere of the group even without her, but it will require careful handling. I hope they do not rush the solution just to move forward quickly.
