Every now and then you hear about a comic book sales-boosting stunt that is such an obviously bad idea you want to rush into the company’s headquarters and holler “STOP.” You know it’s going to end badly for everyone involved, but you don’t really have the power to prevent it, so all you can do is watch the train derail. Marvel’s new announcement today about an upcoming Spider-Man story is one of these moments.

They are ruining Peter's life again, First Mephisto forced Peter to divorce Mary Jane and make them not meet each other to bring back Aunt May to life. Now whatever this is.

Many fans are likely feeling nervous about this storyline, wondering how it will affect Spider-Man's legacy. They already did so much damage to him in the past.

Listen, the possibilities for what Spidey did are not looking good, folks. He could have dropped the ball on a big tragedy, and we've seen that play out a million times. It's just not that shocking. But, if it turns out to be true, we'll be left with characters acting totally out of character. And, if they go for the real shocker - like Spider-Man committing murder - well, let's just say that'll contradict everything we know about the character. At this point, it seems like a bad story no matter how you slice it.

Now listen up folks, this is not the first time we've seen these comic book companies try to pull a publicity stunt to boost their sales. But let me tell ya, it never works out well for them. Marvel's trying to paint Peter as a bad guy, and it's all because they're scared he's gonna become public domain in just a few years. They're trying to push Miles Morales as the better Spiderman so they can keep the rights and keep the money rolling in. It's a dirty business, folks, and we need to call them out on it!
