Hum... Why? Do you think that he is a bad actor or something?

His last few haven't been that great in the box office such as MIB III, After Earth (Which he is angry at M. Night Shyamalan) Hancock (Which derailed at the last part of the film) and some others. Having him in this film could be risky unless they play it straight and get other bankable actors.

MIB III had a budget of $215 million and made $624 million. That's a little under 3x the budget. It was a success no matter how you look at it.

Even After Earth broke even. It had a budget of $130 million and a box office of $243 million. It was a modest success.

Will Smith is still a bankable actor. I have no idea what you are talking about. Studios do not care much for the reviews of their movies, it's the money that they care about. As long as Will Smith brings in theatergoers, he will be a bankable actor.

You argument is plenty valid but its clear as day that our concern should not be whether or not Will Smith can make sure a production makes money but whether or not it will end up being a film worth seeing and/or one that would actually be a respectable homage to the Ultraman franchise which is clearly the much more important discussion to be having with this film.

Both After Earth and MIB III bombed domestically, which is usually a factor if a film is to get a sequel, or for its actors to be seen as bankable. Hancock was a success , but barely over its budget domestically. Rim made over its budget overseas, but would it motivate a sequel? Probably not.

Point is his career is a bit on the lower end, and this movie isn't real.

...but will smith as ultraman? just no.

Probably the only dude who has a pretty good idea what Ultraman is and did the trademark Specium Ray pose....

....which silenced Jay Leno.

Then again, Tsubaraya's demands/request...caused Steve Wang to drop out of doing "Ultraman Ultimate Hero."

Needed to be more lax, but not as lax as Toho in 1998 for Ultraman.
