How ironic for the episodes this topic covers, as I just spent the evening watching the first 8 episodes to Jetman. The last time I watched this show was in 2004, in piss poor 2MB/Ep quality, and raw with every other episode having its audio out of synch. As such, I don't really remember too much about the show's basics, just the important events that happen, so it feels like I am watching most of this for the first time. Nevertheless, it is pretty enjoyable, but there are some issues I do have with it, which seem to be stand out even worse now seeing it sub.

The first episode feels extremely rushed, but it is the fourth episode that I would say was the worst of the bunch in tonight's viewing. One minute Kaori is happy, then she is sad, then she meets her fiancee, tells him she wants to continue being a ranger, then tells the others she is going to marry him, they go off into battle and somehow Kaori and her fiancee are getting married? How is that even possible? Were the rangers fighting Road Dimension for days? How did they get a church, get the dresses, and a priest all within minutes? It just doesn't make sense.

Anyway, outside of that, I have enjoyed the series quite a bit thus far, even more so than previously. I will stand on my thoughts from years ago that this show has some of the weakest MOTW designs I have ever seen. I love the designs of the Vyram commanders (especially Ridiguet and Grey), but their monsters look extremely lackluster.

With that said, I'll probably watch another batch of episodes tomorrow, but we'll see. The snow storm from Sunday has got me in the mood to watch The Shining.

Since there does not seem to be another discussion topic for more episodes:

Well I watched episodes 9-16 of Jetman a little while ago. First off, let me get this out of the way, what the **** is up with the sobo noodles episode? I already knew it was coming, but this episode is one of the worst episodes in the entire history of Sentai. There have been bad episodes, bad moments, bad series, but this episode is right up there with the Live Green pregnancy episode in my "WTF Were They Thinking?" category. If I show this series to my friends I will definitely not ever let them watch this or they may never want to watch another episode of Jetman after it.

With that out of the way, the two parter with Camera Dimension were down right awesome. This is a very rare occasion to have a series where a character just comes out and says they love another character to that person. Forget the epic lunch Kaoru and Kouga plan to have after the Garo movie, this is something truly unexpected from a Japanese show. However, am I the only one that finds it weird that they are celebrating Ryu's 26th birthday when a few episodes prior Ryu's grandma said he was 27? That just strikes me as odd. Did GUIS mess up their translation in one of these episodes?

Anyway, the episode where Ako's friend finds out she is a ranger was really good too. The episode after, with the paper monster, was average, especially given the last several episodes prior to it. I also did like the episode with the killer bus that came before the two parter. Grey is a pretty cool villain and becoming my favorite of the bunch.

Overall, Jetman is pretty good, but I still cannot see how people think it is the greatest series ever. Yeah, some people said that to me about DaiRanger, but still. Jetman is good, but I'd say it is equal to ZyuRanger.

There's a bit of Sentai history in there. Sort of. That episode was the first that Naruhisa Arakawa wrote for Sentai. He would go on to write Kuuga, Abaranger, Dekaranger, Gokaiger, and Akibaranger. A lot of his stories do for that weird factor you can see throughout the other shows he's been associated with as head writer.

I'll get those to you probably some time this week.

Anyway, I watched episodes 17-21, which were quite good. I loved the development they gave Ridguet in 17 and 18, but I wished they had done more with him being turned into a human. It seemed rather underwhelming to have him become a human, help a girl, and then turn back all within 18 minutes. However, the best part was the lack of any mech battles between 17-19. If there is one thing I love about the older series, it is that if a mech battle was not needed, there was not one. These days, mech battles are forced into every friggin episode. I do remember the 19th episode though, with the Fortune Teller Dimension, which I did enjoy way back then raw, but it was even better now seeing it subbed. Even the yearly, "I'm not really evil" MOTW episode with Poohtan was actually pretty good for being a reused plot point (and usually, those are some of the worst episodes in a series). Overall, another batch of really enjoyable episodes.

Well... Jetman is one of the few shows where I like the fillers. I loved the garbage teddy episode... But I think my favourite Jetman episode might be the casino one. Which I'm not going to spoil considering that you haven't watched it yet.

Well I just finished episode 41 a little while ago. The show is still very good, but I don't like how Raita and Ako are pretty much wallpaper when it comes to development. There is an immense amount of development for Ryu (which is to be expected since he is red), Gai, and Kaori, but little to nothing at all for the other two. It is kind of a let down because people always praise how great this show's rangers are, yet, they complain about how rangers get short changed in other shows even though it is no different here. Don't get me wrong, I definitely feel there is very strong development in this show, as it is definitely one of its best points, but I just had to point out that little rant there.

Anyway, it is so nice to see my favorite Toku actor in action again, but I could have sworn Tran's transformation was a lot earlier in the show. Grey still remains awesome. I do find it funny how Geki's actor and Dan's actor are both in this show (not to mention Dan is named Dan in both series). I wonder if they had been cast for ZyuRanger prior to being in Jetman. Although, it does seem kind of lazy for the writers to just name the character Dan again, but it will make for a good piece of trivia in my Sentai vs Rider game at NDK this year.

I do have to point out another thing though, dealing with episode 32, the one where the rangers have their spirits stolen. The priest says the body and spirit can only be separated for one hour. Isn't it convenient that it is one hour from the last guy who had his spirit taken? Ako should have been stone dead around the time Raita got his spirit removed since they had to first figure out what happened. It isn't just here though, as this is something that happens in every Sentai show, as the time limit fates of all rely solely on the last person affected.

Well... Jetman is one of the few shows where I like the fillers. I loved the garbage teddy episode... But I think my favourite Jetman episode might be the casino one. Which I'm not going to spoil considering that you haven't watched it yet.

I'm assuming you are referring to the one between Gai and Grey and the roulette game right? If so, yes, that is definitely a great one. To be quite honest though, I don't know if I have an absolute favorite episode in this show. I mean, I love the demon bus episode, I thought the one I mentioned above with the spirit removal was fantastic, but I'm not sure if I could say either of those are my absolute favorite episode of the series. Maybe it would be the three parter with the demons (one who had his name go from Gorg to Org for some reason).

I've finished Jetman not that long ago so looking back on this episode, I was thinking that he was really gonna stay in a human form for a least two or three episodes forming more of a bond with that girl and actually accepting humanity then at some point remembering who he was. It was just too quick of a change for me since I wanted to see more of that bond between them.

Also, I do agree about how Ako and Raita were treated since I saw them as just backup characters doing their own thing and consoling or in Ako's case "getting some information from" Kaori about how she's feeling about every thing that goes on between her, Ryu, and Gai.

So I watched 42-45 earlier and I have to say that I felt quite bored by Tranza's demon mech. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood to watch the episodes, or maybe it was the lack of music through half of the fights, but I just sat there wonder how much longer the episodes had to go. There were some really great moments, but overall, it wasn't that good.

I kinda felt the same when I saw those episodes. I thought that Toranza was kinda over doing it to kill the Jetmen but he wanted to go all out and he did even though it ended in tragedy for him.
