First On-Set Photos From The Witcher Season 2
The television and film industry is slowly firing the machine back up, and as you might imagine, it’s a delicate and tricky process. Netflix will resume filming Season 2 of The Witcher on August 17, and the staff is currently setting up the necessary precautions and safety measures. How do you plan out a fantasy epic under such conditions? Like this:
First day back after mid spring lock down on Witcher S2. Learning to social distance with my show runner /Exec producer, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. She can conjure narrative and character with a muscular control like the great Houdini. @LHissrich pic.twitter.com/HVHpuDPSd1

On the right: episode director Stephen Surjik. On the left, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. They’re in a meeting, faces covered, six feet apart and separated by plastic. Hissrich herself shared her own photo from the set:
I answered a FaceTime call on set from my seven year old in this PPE.
He very politely said, “Hi, can I speak to Mommy please?” pic.twitter.com/nTygJZdg3H

Doubly guarded in masks and face shields, Lauren proved unrecognizable to her own son at home. The actors have yet to join them, but their first day back is coming shortly…

We doubt Geralt and Ciri will be wearing PPE gear in their next episode, so it’ll be interesting to see how the actual filming itself is dealt with. Computers? Maybe. NBC’s recent 30 Rock reunion special featured a scene of affection between two characters that was achieved by matting one over the other in post. The effect was more convincing than you might assume.
Season 2 is estimated to be ready for air sometime in 2021. In addition to the regular show, Netflix has several other Witcher-branded products in development, including a prequel series about the original Witcher.
