It’s not a production still. It’s not a one-second glimpse. It has nothing to do with the Bud Knight. It took until….ONE MONTH from its actual release date, but we at last have an honest-to-goodness Game of Thrones trailer containing real scenes from the final season.
And what a scene it opens with: Arya running in a panic through the catacombs of Winterfell, scared out of her mind. We’re talking about the epitome of toughness here. What could have possibly gotten HER so rattled? We think we have an idea….winter is here, war is coming, and the virtually unstoppable White Walkers are at their door. How do you kill the undead, especially when they have their own undead DRAGON?
The final season of Game of Thrones promises to be huge, with each of the six episodes running at least 90 minutes long. Rumor has it the Battle of Winterfell is actually the longest war sequence ever put to film. They’re certainly determined to go out with a bang, and they should be. The years to come will be filled with Game of Thrones knockoffs, all hungry to repeat the glory days of this series. All of them will fail to do so. You can’t repeat the exact same thing twice, culturally, and expect the same results.
So relish Game of Thrones Season 8, because it will never be truly repeated. This is HBO’s LOTR moment, and after this we’re in for a lot of overbloated Hobbits. The final season begins April 14.
Oh yeah, and also don’t forget to watch the second season of Killing Eve at the same time.
