Fan Tries to Pre-Order Fallout 4 With Bottle Caps
One user of Imgur has taken a rather unique way of trying to pre-order Fallout 4. Rather than use standard real-life currency that most retailers accept, he has decided to send his life savings of bottle caps to developer Bethesda.
The seemingly crazy idea does have some merits. As the Fallout series is set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by nuclear explosions, normal money like US dollars no longer have any value. This has led to bottle caps becoming the de facto currency in the games and they can be used to buy everything from food, to weapons and equipment.
“Fallout 3 was my favorite game for several years, so I made the rational choice to start saving up bottle caps,” said GatorMach on the Imgur post. “Turns out 4.5 years of undergrad and 3 years in a Master’s program leads to a lot of drinking. It ended up being 11.2 pounds of bottle caps. You don’t want to know how much it cost to ship it to Maryland.”
He mailed the collection of around 2,000 bottle caps along with a letter (pictured below) to the Bethesda headquarters in the hopes that they will accept payment. There’s a good chance the PR at the company might see this as an opportunity to gain some extra publicity and give him a copy of the game. Of course they might just see that it could work out just as cheap to send him the game when it releases than sending back all of the caps.
