Fallout 4 Mods Limited To 900MB On PS4
When Fallout 4 was first revealed, one of the biggest changes to the franchise was that it would allow mods on the console versions of the game for the very first time. Mods have previously been exclusive to players on PC, so this new opportunity to modify the game and add user-made content was well received by gamers on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. While the Xbox One system is now up and running without any problems, it turns out the PlayStation 4 version of the Creation Kit isn’t working exactly as planned.
This is because the size limit for mods on the PlayStation 4 version of Fallout 4 is just 900MB, less than half of the 2GB limit on the Xbox One. This means that many of the more sophisticated mods for the game simply won’t work on the console as they can’t even be uploaded online for users to download.
There are also some other issues associated with the latest update of the Creation Kit. Bethesda have revealed that anyone using a mod on the PlayStation 4 may run into performance issues and buggy textures. The problems lies in the fact that the game uses PC textures in mods, something the console title is not built to properly support. Sounds files are also not supported as the PlayStation uses a proprietary sound format that Bethesda can’t replicate on the PC where mods are created.
The publisher has said it is actively working with Sony to solve these issues. They are hoping to add optimal texture exporting support and sound file processing support in future updates, while they are negotiating with Sony to try to increase the size file limit.
