Existence of Shovel Knight Amiibo Leaked
Up to this point, the amiibo line has been Nintendo-exclusive. Any third-party characters who have gotten their own amiibo figures had the excuse of also starring in Super Smash Bros. That may change soon, as the UK retailer GAME accidentally indicated when they leaked out an image of a Shovel Knight amiibo, in its package, on their Twitter account. That tweet has since been deleted by GAME, but not by the Internet at large:
Some might be thinking this is a clear indicator that Shovel Knight is about to be added to Smash Bros, but there’s one problem with that theory: the package does not have the Smash Bros. logo on it. (Plus, I’m still Team Shantae, so don’t wreck my hopes.) The tweet’s image does mention it’ll be compatible with future titles from Yacht Club Games in addition to Shovel Knight.
This might be a good time to remind everyone that Shovel Knight is getting both a physical release this fall (as in a disc and a case you can put on your shelf) and an expansion, Plague Knight, which comes free with the disc edition. It will also apparently be amiibo-compatible, though what the amiibo does has yet to be revealed.
