Ex-Infinity Ward employees working on virtual reality FPS
Reload Studios, a development team made up of ex-members of the Call of Duty creator Infinity Ward, is working on a first-person shooter for virtual reality devices. The company’s official site reveals more information about the studio and what exactly they are working on.
The team lists a number of high-profile staff members such as James Chung, Taehoon Oh, Pete Blumel and Nik Ranieri. In a press release on their site, they explain that they are working on a virtual reality game because of the potential of VR devices and are excited about how the medium will move forward in the future. They also state that they will work on titles for other platforms, such as smartphones and consoles.
“When I first saw what the latest round of VR devices could do, I realized these were not just peripherals but brand new platforms that could transform the way we experience, interact with and create media. It was the perfect time to follow my passion and bring together the most talented people I know under one roof to form a development culture that promotes creativity and collaboration.”
Taehoon Oh went on to say that virtual reality was a new and exciting technology that could change the way people game. “People are always looking for something new,“ added Oh. “ Just as smartphones changed the way we live our lives, I am sure VR will change the way people experience media content. As a game developer, this realization compelled me to become part of a new team that focuses on developing VR content.”
Their first title is now under development with a team of just 12 employees. Reload Studios haven’t given us much information about we can expect from their first-person shooter other than that it will release in 2015 for VR devices, smartphones and next-generation consoles.
