EVO Concludes as mousesports Take ESL DOTA 2 Summer Finals
This past weekend two major esports tournaments were held, EVO is one of the biggest esports events in the world and focuses entirely on fighting games while the Raid Call ESL Summer Finals in one of the many big summer DOTA 2 tournaments.
EVO was definitely the more popular event with over 1.7million viewers checking out the numerous live streams at some point over the weekend. Many tournaments were happening at the event, including Super Street Fighter 4, Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Super Smash Bros. Melee. The Street Fighter tournament was dominated by Asian players with Xian from Singapore winning the competition and Japanese player Tokido coming in second.
The rest of the EVO tournaments were mostly won by American players, Flocker took home the Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 crown, Mango won the Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament and DJT 88 was champion of Mortal Kombat all of whom are Americans. The full list of winners can be found here.
As events at EVO were unfolding a somewhat smaller but just as entertaining tournament was taking place, the Raid Call ESL DOTA 2 Summer Finals compromised of 8 of the best DOTA teams battling it out to secure the $12,000 grand prize. The overall winners were mousesports, who only lost one game throughout the whole tournament ( the matches were in a best of 3 format). Evil Geniuses came in a very respectable second, and thus took home $7000. mousesports were by far the best team at the tournament, with Mouz Black having a great weekend, which leaves them in good shape for the upcoming International.
