Early Xbox One Happy Wars Release Breaks Earlier Game
The Xbox One version of Happy Wars has been released onto the Xbox One Store by mistake, with those who played it now unable to go back to the original game on the Xbox 360. Developer Toylogic has since apologized for the error and explained that they will release a title update as soon as possible to fix the problem.
In a statement on the developer’s official Facebook page they revealed that a development build of the game had accidentally been made public and that players should avoid downloading and playing it. The statement continued:
“Please note that after playing Happy Wars for Xbox One, the current version of Happy Wars for Xbox 360 will no longer be playable. Official release of Happy Wars for Xbox One is planned in the near future, so please refrain from installing and running Happy Wars for Xbox One until that time.
“The issue of Happy Wars for Xbox 360 becoming unplayable will be resolved by the next title update of Happy Wars for Xbox 360. However, if you have already installed and played Happy Wars for Xbox One, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you.”
Developed by Toylogic and published by Microsoft Studios, Happy Wars is a free downloadable game that operates as a free-to-play title, although only available to Xbox Live Gold members. This allows players to play the game at no cost but offers various upgrades and extra content at a small cost. The game essentially sees players levelling up their characters as they attempt to destroy enemy castles. It combines elements of role-playing and strategy games along with third-person action games and also features a short single player campaign. However, Happy Wars is primarily an online multiplayer game.
Since its release on the Xbox 360 in 2012, the title has gone on to be downloaded more than six million times. Its popularity later saw it release on the PC. The Xbox One port has been in development for several months and will see cross-platform play between it and the Xbox 360 version. No official release date has been given so far but it is expected to launch some time this year.
