E3 2017: Why Coco Is In Crash Bandicoot Trilogy
So Crash Bandicoot is making a return to games via a compilation/remaster of his first three titles in Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. But the twist is that Crash’s sister Coco will be a playable character in all three games. Which is a bit weird for some, as she wasn’t in/created until later in the trilogy. So, why is she in?
Answer? Time Travel.
“Time travel solves everything,” Massie joked to IGN. “So, [we have] the save/load screen. She’s hacking in with her pink laptop and you see shots of the first two games [appear]. There is a similar interaction point in all three hubs of all three games.”
Basically, in Crash Bandicoot: Warped, time travel was introduced, and so the team used that to bring in Coco for the trilogy. More than that though, the team really wanted her to be a fully-fledged character in the game.
“The team wanted to [include Coco] right from early stages of production,” Massie said. “Animators, character designers came to me and said ‘Can we fit this in the schedule?'”
They said yes, and the rest is history. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy will be released on PlayStation 4 on June 30
