E3 2017: Nintendo Reveals Why They Unveiled Metroid Prime 4
Easily one of the biggest surprises of E3 2017 was Metroid Prime 4. The next game in a franchise that fans have been begging Nintendo to bring back for quite some time. However, the reveal of the game was just a look at the logo, with a note that the game was in development. Nothing else was given about the game itself. Though it was noted that Retro Studios was not making the game.
So, this begs the question, why did Nintendo unveil it if the game didn’t have anything to show? Well, in an interview IGN, Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime stated this:
“For certain games, games that will be in development for, let’s call it a decent amount of time, like Metroid Prime 4 — also, given that it’s a franchise that we know people have been very eager to get some news — that’s when, fine, we’ll share it. We’ll share it early, Others, we want to hold closer in and reveal it when the gameplay is going to be available. It literally is game by game, title by title, how we make that decision.”
Ironically, this wasn’t the only time at E3 that Nintendo did a name reveal with no content. GameFreak stated that a core Pokemon RPG was coming to Nintendo Switch as well. It would seem that Nintendo really does hear the cries of its fans, and wants to please them, even if only with teasers.
