E3 2017: Nintendo Recognizes Fan Desire for Virtual Console on Switch
For the past few gaming generations, it hasn’t been enough that players want new and fresh games, they also want the chance to play old games from the past generations on the current ones. For Nintendo, they’ve been delivering that since the Wii with the Virtual Console. Through it, Nintendo fanboys and fangirls have gotten titles from both console and handheld generations long gone. But, when the Nintendo Switch launched, it was conspicuously absent.
Adding to the mystery was that Nintendo really wasn’t saying why it wasn’t there. So, at E3, when the Virtual Console still wasn’t revealed, Nintendo Of America President Reggie Fils-Aime was asked by IGN about it, and he responded:
“We know that our fans, our players, want access to all of our digital content, we know that. What we’re working through is, ‘okay, what’s going to be the best way to make that happen, to make that available?'” Fils-Aime said. “Certainly, we recognize there’s an appetite for all of our great legacy content.”
Reggie believes that the new MyNintendo program could be the head of that, but didn’t go into much detail. We’ll just have to wait and see what Nintendo does with this.
