E3 2017: Battlefront 2 To Have Microtransactions
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is getting a lot of attention this weekend, yesterday at the EA Play Event (which is technically tied to E3) EA and DICE revealed a new trailer and details about DLC. Long story short, not only will the game have DLC, it’ll all be free. No pay-to-play it, no Season Pass, just freely given. Now, that raised some questions about whether there will be other kinds of purchases in the game, and that has now been confirmed.
In an interview with Gamespot, Battlefront II design director Niklas Fegraeus revealed that the game will have microtransactions. However, they’re meant to only help players get ahead if they haven’t had time to get enough in-game currency to get it themselves:
“If you want to accelerate that, if you can’t play for a week, you can purchase that,” Fegraeus explained.
For them, they just want to make sure everyone enjoys the game, but doesn’t feel penalized if they can’t play it all the time like some players do. And if you are one of those players who can play long sessions, you’ll never have to worry about paying, and that’s ok with them:
“The important thing is everything can be earned [through gameplay]. If you’re someone who spends time on the game, we love you, do your thing, do what you want to do. If you don’t have the time, you can spend money and we love you as well. It’s your choice,” he added.
Fegraeus noted that this will not cause a “pay-to-win” system. For what’s being bought won’t change the game like that.
Battlefront II releases November 17th.
