Dragon Ball Z: Battle Of Gods Returns To Theaters
Ten years ago, Toei released Dragon Ball Z: Battle Of Gods in theaters around the world. Picking up where Dragon Ball Z left off, it introduced a new threat after Majin Buu and forced Goku to tap into power levels he’d never achieved before. Now, on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, Crunchyroll and Fathom Events are re-screening the film over two nights next month.
Lord Beerus, the catlike God of Destruction, has arrived to challenge Goku to a battle — if the Saiyan loses, Earth will be destroyed. If this plot sounds familiar, it’s because it was retold as the first two dozen episodes of Dragon Ball Super, the canon follow-up to Z (GT has been discredited). Those who are crunched for time can watch Battle Of Gods and get the same plot in a much shorter amount of time.
Following the events from the “Dragon Ball Z” television series, after the defeat of Majin Buu, a new power awakens and threatens humanity. Beerus, an ancient and powerful God of Destruction, searches for Goku after hearing rumors of the Saiyan warrior who defeated Frieza. Realizing the threat Beerus poses to their home planet, the Z-fighters must find a way to stop him. Only Goku, humanity’s last hope, can ascend to the level of a legendary Super Saiyan God and stop Beerus from destroying Earth, and possibly the entire universe! Fans of Dragon Ball Z, one of the most successful anime brands of all time, will be delighted to know that Battle of Gods is an original work from the Dragon Ball creator himself, Akira Toriyama.
We do have to point out that this is the rare anime screening that only offers an English dub, so if that turns you off, just stay home (or watch Dragon Ball Super). Dragon Ball Z: Battle Of Gods appears in theaters October 17 and 18. Click here for showings near you.
