Dr.Brain coming to Apple TV
Dr. Brain
Dr. Brain is a thriller series from South Korea that will exclusively stream for Apple TV. The Success of Squid Game and Sweet Home shows South Korea is the entertainment capital of the future. The entertainment industry of this country knows how to balance different kinds of audiences. They know how to make fresh takes of cliche tropes and also make new stories that are never seen before.
Korean content brings Fresh programs that are very new to the American Palate. Korean dramas and movies are some of the most viewed content on Netflix. Before only Asians watch Korean dramas but the audience has expanded to the West. Squid Game’s rise to the top inspired the other platforms to want a piece of that profitable Dalgona pie. Apple TV will stream its very first licensed Korean thriller, Dr. Brain. It will have science fiction and murder mystery elements so it’s like a post-genre piece.
Dr. Brain is directed and written by Jee-Woon Kim.
He is the man behind legendary movies like A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) and I Saw the Devil (2010). Lee Sun-Kyun plays the role of Sewon. A gifted brain scientist invented a device that gives him the ability to brain synch with the dead. That gives him the memories of a crime victim and investigates who is the culprit. I see similarities with Izombie, which is about a sentient zombie who solves crimes by eating the brains of the victims. Similar premise minus the unappetizing brain-eating because a machine is involved instead.
Brain Synching won’t be an easy process for him as he suffers from PTSD from his tragic past. To make it worst, he has a photographic memory that makes him remember every single day of his life. That is already overwhelming, Just imagine having someone’s brain be synch with him.
