Doom Patrol And Titans Renewed For Fourth Seasons
Good news for fans of former DC Universe programs that were dumped onto HBO Max — those programs seem to be holding up well against the competition. During today’s DC FanDome event, WB announced both Doom Patrol and Titans have been given fourth season renewals.
The premise for Doom Patrol is basically “what if the X-Men had no idea what they were doing.” The Patrol spends more time fighting each other than they do actual crime, and the world they live in (which is still the DC Universe) is unapologetically wacky. The cast is fantastic, with Brendan Fraser as Robotman, a former race car driver who wound up in an accident so bad his brain was transferred to a robot body. He spends all his time swearing and getting easily agitated about the tiniest of problems. April Bowlby is amazing as Rita Farr, a Golden Age Hollywood actress stuck in time — she brings her stuck up “I’m too good for this” attitude to every situation and it never gets old. Diane Guerrero wows as “Crazy” Jane, a late-70s punkster who possesses 64 personalities, each with a separate superpower. Jane could be unstoppable if she was more stable, but she’s often literally her own worst enemy.
Frankly, I feel fortunate we live in an age where something like Doom Patrol can not only exist but last as long as it has. I mean, there’s plenty wrong with our current world, but Doom Patrol existing kinda makes up for it.
Oh yeah, and there’s this other show called Titans that also runs alongside Doom Patrol and got renewed too, but since it doesn’t have a reckless swearing race car driving robot or a horde of murderous butts, it’s inherently inferior. Here’s an advance clip from the Season 3 finale:
Doom Patrol and Titans are currently running through their third seasons on HBO Max. Titans will wrap up October 21 and Doom Patrol’s season finale will appear November 11.
