Doom Patrol And Titans Cancelled By HBO Max
It’s not exactly earth-shattering news if you’ve been following the headlines, but Warner Bros has just confirmed the fourth seasons of DC shows Doom Patrol and Titans will be the last of each. Though these shows have their fans — Doom Patrol especially — WB’s clean sweep of all disconnected DC programs in favor of a unified Gunnverse makes their continued existences impossible. Also, everything is getting cancelled at HBO Max anyway.
I never was into Titans, and I have yet to meet anybody who was. But Doom Patrol was totally my jam. Finally, a superhero show that’s not afraid to embrace comic book logic to its extreme, something most shows based on comic books have been annoyingly reluctant to do. I never thought it would last as long as it has. I will treasure what I could get forever.
Doom Patrol’s doom was spoiled two days early by Diane Guerrero, who posted a “goodbye” to her character Jane on social media last Monday with no explanation.
“To our wonderfully supportive partners at HBO Max, Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and DC Studios, thank you for indulging us these past four seasons,” said showrunner Jeremy Carver. “Also, what were you smoking? To our brilliant cast, indomitable crew, fearless writing staff and, most of all, to our beautiful fans: thank you all the more. You made this a once-in-a-lifetime ride.”
Doom Patrol and Titans aren’t really GONE gone, they have six episodes each to burn off at some point in the future. The question is if HBO Max will let them. On any other streamer that would’ve been a guarantee, but we can’t promise you they won’t sell the remaining six to Freevee, or that the entire library won’t disappear overnight, or that Zaslav won’t personally take the masters and stomp on them. That reminds me how much I hate this service.
