Don’t Miss Tartakovsky’s Latest, Unicorn Warriors Eternal
Animation director Genndy Tartakovsky is the creator of a lot of cool things; Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Sym-Bionic Titan and most recently Primal — but he’s had another project on his plate for some time that barely anyone has known anything about. Today Adult Swim finally gave us a peek at the thing: a 10-episode miniseries called Unicorn Warriors Eternal.
The fact that it’s AS airing this is a bit of a curveball; from the few sketches that have been released and the kid-friendly designs within (not to mention the name, which would have fit at home next to Ben 10 or Generator Rex), we thought Unicorn was meant to be a Cartoon Network show. But there must be some adult elements we don’t see yet. Can’t possibly be bloodier than Primal anyway.
Unicorn is the story of three heroes who are reincarnated every era to fight an ancient evil that resurfaces periodically. And just like them, the show is older than it looks and has been thrown around many times. “This show was created in my early days at Cartoon Network Studios more than 20 years ago,” Tartakovsky says. “All the projects we worked on — Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and Sym-Bionic Titan — were like a training ground getting us ready for this series. It took all of that time to finally be able to tackle a show like Unicorn Warriors Eternal.”
The series starts its run Tuesday, May 4 at midnight on Adult Swim. We’ll be there — we’ll take all the Tartakovsky we can get.
