Don’t Forget About Final Space Season 3
As far as American cartoons are concerned, there’s nothing like Final Space, the cosmic epic that began on TBS but found a more fitting home on Adult Swim. While most animated series use comedy as their main focus, the situations in Final Space are often serious and carry some weight to them. The serialized drama element makes this show rather innovative among cable animation, and if you’re not a watcher, you should be.
The intrepid but often inept Gary and his motley crew of space explorers are on a quest to save the universe…too bad they’re kind of making their plan up as they go. Whatever the fate of the universe is, it involves the threat of gargantuan creatures who up to this point have been safely locked away in a dangerous corner of the cosmos known only as “Final Space.” Gary’s mission in the first season was to stop a mad despot from opening a portal to Final Space, and though he kind of succeeded in closing it, the portal stayed open JUST long enough to destroy Earth and whisk away Quinn, the love of Gary’s life.
What to do? Spend Season 2 tracking down keys to open a new portal so Gary can rescue Quinn. That quest led to where we are now, Season 3, where our crew is now trapped in Final Space and kind of need rescuing themselves. Their skills of survival are in varying degrees of competence…on the bottom you have Gary, and on the top you have Mooncake, a flying green plushie-thing whose cute appearance contrasts with its massive destructive beams.
The latest episode, “One Of Us,” debuts this weekend, and according to AS’s brief description, we’ll “find out what happens when Gary and Quinn plan a dangerous rescue mission to save Avocato and the others.” Avocato is a bipedal warrior cat. See, there’s so much you don’t know by not watching this.
How long is Final Space intended to be? Creator Olan Rogers has stated the storyline he planned out is six seasons long. Whether he gets to tell the second half of this story, or if it gets cut off the way poor Infinity Train did, is up to us. Don’t miss this great show…new episodes of Final Space air Saturday nights at 11:30 on Adult Swim.
