Don Mattrick Departs Microsoft – Zooms To Zynga
Early today, a report from All Things D highlighted a surprising shift by Microsoft’s main-man for all things Xbox, Don Mattrick, as they reported his intention to leave the company mere months after the announcement of the Xbox One, and claiming a leadership role at Zynga.
Although the report from All Things D was initially considered speculation it has since been confirmed by Zynga that Mattrick will be replacing Mark Pincus as the company’s new CEO.
A letter from Mark Pincus also revealed that Mattrick will be joining Zynga in his official role next week, but will be available with Pincus tomorrow to introduce himself to future colleagues.
The Xbox One has suffered serious criticism, from it’s initial announcement through to its recent DRM 180. As such, it’s not hard to consider a possible link between Mattrick’s departure and the lack luster introduction of Microsoft’s next-gen console. Although I doubt Don would admit as much, his comments about an offline solution for the Xbox One, for example, couldn’t have gone down well with shareholders.

I feel like a terrible person saying this, but I’m rather happy to see him go. Perhaps he’ll be replaced by someone who actually knows the products they’re working on and competing against.

I don’t really care one way or the other. It’s highly unlikely I’ll be getting an Xbox 1 rather than a PS4. I’m not in a rush to get either atm, because my PC I bought 2.5 years ago is just as good as both of them. Though, I’m saving money for a PC upgrade so I can play Star Citizen when it comes out.
