Does Eden Exist In Logan?
If you’ve seen Logan (check out our review of it here), you’ll know that the ending was a bit of a cliffhanger in one major aspect. One that has some moviegoers wondering, “What happened next?”
WARNING: Spoilers Ahead!
At the end of the film, Logan does die, definitively, and the mutant children he was protecting, including Laura, escape. But, we don’t see them reach the border, or get to this “Eden” that was mentioned many times. Did it really exist? We saw one of the children talking to someone about “asylum” via the radio, but we never get to see them be safe from harm. In an interview with ComicBookResources.com, James Mangold, the director of Logan, he reveals why it ended like this:
“I think we watch movies too literally,” Mangold said. “I think we want answers, contractual answers. Life never gives us these answers, and I think that — people could ask questions about what happened to the X-Men or why do this or why. The comic books never answered every question. Somehow the movies are expected to. When you do, and there are many movies that try to answer every question, you end up with these endless scenes with people explaining stuff, ad infinitum. It may satisfy some people, but in life, I hardly understand what’s going on one moment to the next. I like movies where there are mysteries.”
