Either we have this wrong or Futurama just did a spoof episode of the the recent Playstation hack. In the episode we see a young boy who is modifying Bender so that he may have control over what bender does. The manufacturer that built Bender, MomCorp, don’t take this to lightly and decide to bring the boy to court. There are countless scenes that all appear to familiar with the recent playstation hack.
Later on we hear about the classic User Agreement argument
This is something of course saying that Geohotz most likely agreed to the terms and was thereby not authorized to modify the console and violation of the copy right agreement.
“On January 11, 2011, Sony sued Hotz, Hector Martin Cantero, Sven Peter and Does 1 through 100, purportedly including members of fail0verflow on 8 claims, including violation of the DMCA, computer fraud, and copyright infringement. The law firm used by Sony is Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP. In response to the suit, Carnegie Mellon University professor David S. Touretzky mirrored Hotz’s writings and issued a statement supporting that Hotz’s publication is within his right to free speech.”
Later on the episode MomCorp sends out a raid team to retrieve the modified hardware. This to happened during the Sony versus Geohotz case where Sony went in and got the HDD of computers and Playstation 3. Other hacker raids occurred as well during this time.
“On April 11, 2011, it was revealed that Hotz and Sony had reached a settlement out of court. This included a permanent injunction against Hotz doing any more hacking work on any Sony products. to prevent any future firmwares from being decrypted.”
No doubt that this is all referring to the Playstation hack.
