Daredevil: Elodie Yung Cast as Elektra for Second Season
Marvel Entertainment has announced that actress Elodie Yung (G.I Joe: Retaliation) has been cast in the role of Elektra Natchios aka Elektra in the second season of the hit Netflix TV series, Daredevil, based on the Marvel Comics. Elektra is a huge and significant character for the Daredevil mythos, having played a role in many key storylines of the comics involving Daredevil. Elektra was a primary love interest for Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil). Eventually, Elektra grew into a prominent and popular character in her own right, having starred in her own comic series and appearing in numerous other Marvel titles as well.
In Daredevil Season 2, Yung will play Elektra, a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past. Her dangerous and exotic ways might become more than he will handle. It makes sense that the two will have a previous relationship. In the first season of the series, a flashback scene had Matt Murdock reference a girl he was seeing in college that was clearly in reference to Elektra.
Elektra joins the cast opposite Charlie Cox as Daredevil/Matt Murdock and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, another Marvel milestone character who will appear this season. Interestingly enough, Elektra has actually had a love affair in the comics with Frank Castle. Not that the new season will incorporate a love triangle, but Elektra has been romantically involved with both characters in Marvel Comics history.
Speaking on Yung’s casting, Marvel Head of TV and Daredevil Executive Producer Jeph Loeb stated: “After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity. Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”
Marvel’s Daredevil Season 2 will stream on Netflix later in 2016.
