Dan Aykroyd Blames Director For Reboot Fail
If you’re looking for some controversial films that have released in the past few years, one of them has to be the return of Ghostbusters. Almost from the outset fans were against the film, as the all-female cast among other things were criticized from top to bottom. So when the film didn’t do well at the box office overall, a lot of people weren’t surprised, and a lot of finger pointing happened as a result.
One of the biggest supporters of the film, one the original Ghostbusters Dan Aykroyd noted on UK’s Sunday Brunch show (which made its way online via Twitter) that for him, the problem wasn’t the cast, who he adored, but rather, it was director Paul Feig who dropped the ball:
“[Ghostbusters] made a lot of money around the world but just cost too much, making it economically not feasible to do another one. So that’s too bad. The director, he spent too much on it. He didn’t shoot scenes we suggested to him and several scenes that were going to be needed and he said, ‘Nah, we don’t need them.’ Then we tested the movie and they needed them and he had to go back. About $30 to $40-million in reshoots. So he will not be back on the Sony lot any time soon.
These are some strong words indeed, and it’ll be interesting if he’s right about that last line.

So much for him being a supporter of the film.
