Cube World Alpha Launches as Official Site Gets Attacked
It has been a strange few days for indie developer Picroma. Last week they launched the paid alpha for Cube World. But mere hours after it launched their site was hit with a DoS attack.
Cube World had built up a large following prior to release but after the launch of the alpha word about the game spread quickly. Unfortunately someone, or a group of people, didn’t like all the attention the game was getting so they unleashed a DoS attack onto the games official website . The attacks continued throughout the week which resulted in account registrations and the shop being taken offline. It is currently unknown who is behind the attacks.
“Our server is getting attacked by denial-of-service (DoS) attacks on a regular basis. The attacks usually occur in the evening and at night (European time).” Said Wollay, founder of Picroma. “We will try to find a solution as soon as possible.”
At the time of writing the store is still offline and nobody is able to purchase the game, however when the store reopens the game can be purchased here.
Cube World is ‘A Voxel-Based Exploration RPG’, or at least that’s what the game’s website calls it, developed by the husband and wife team that is Picroma. At first glance it looks very similar to fellow indie mega-hit Minecraft but looks is about where the similarities end. Cube World has a plethora of complex RPG systems at work, leveling, crafting and character customization are all present along with skills, multiple races and classes and who could forget hand gliding. Whilst playing the game you are free to explore the infinite world battling a number of creatures along with exploring dungeons. The trailer below shows off the game in more detail.
