Crowdfunding Platform Fig Receives Over $500K in Pledges
Fig, the new crowdfunding platform by former Double Fine COO Justin Bailey, is a hit. Mere days after launching the platform with Mobius Digital’s Outer Wilds as the test project of sorts, the investors have backed $500,000 into it. Speaking to Gameindustry.biz, Bailey notes his excitement, and how they’re probably going to up the ante in regards to Outer Wilds.
“The investment interest we’re seeing is far exceeding our expectations,” Fig founder Bailey said. “Right now we have over half a million dollars of expressed interest to invest into Outer Wilds. We’re currently vetting that amount, going through it with the investors. We’re actually having discussions with Mobius Digital about taking on investment; right now they’ve capped investment at $50,000 which we already have. Obviously we have ten times more than that lined up.”
However, they’re also being smart about this, they’re not going to rush into full-on production until they know that every backer is vetted and will give what they promised. “We’ve got a lot of data now and we need to sort through it and figure out how we’ll be changing things in the future,” added Bailey. “There’s a lot of excitement, I think the message is very, very clear that people are interested in having a financial stake in these games that they’re helping fund.”
All signs point to Fig being a huge success. However, we’ll have to see how things evolve going forward, and if it can keep it up.
