Could There Someday Be A Scott Pilgrim Animated Series?
This week, EW.com published an excellent interview with Edgar Wright, the director of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. 2020 marks the tenth anniversary of the cult classic film, which lost at the box office to a stale Stallone movie yet has grown in popularity in the years since. Wright was joined by the lead actors from the movie: Michael Cera as Scott, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee and others.
There are a lot of interesting facts revealed in this interview — the movie is packed with folks who would become stars, to the point that Wright actually had to turn away people fated to be famous…Rooney Mara, Betty Gilpin and Zoe Kazan all shot auditions. The most interesting thing we learned, though, is that they’re thinking of bringing Scott back — but in a new form.
“There’s some plans — and there’s nothing official yet — but there are some plans to revisit the material in an animation way,” confesses Wright. “We’ve been talking with Bryan and with Jared for a while [about]: What if we did something with the books in anime form? It’s being discussed as we speak.”
O’Malley is thinking about revisiting Scott whether the proposed cartoon happens or not. “I would like to revisit the characters [in comic form] and see what they’re up to. I sketched Scott early in the pandemic with a huge beard. I think that would be a funny image.”
