Coming To Your NES: The Adventures Of Panzer
About a decade ago, programmer Dave Nemeth was really into MMOs and had many adventures with his guild. It was at that time he was inspired to create a sprite-based webcomic based around the guild, which he kept going until the group broke up and the well of inspiration ran dry. Years later, he got into NES homebrew development, but was stuck on a subject until he got the idea to base the game around his old MMO character Panzer.
Panzer regards himself as the most brilliant military general alive, at least in his own words. In The Adventures of Panzer — coming soon to your NES — Panzer is on a mission to bring his old gang back together, whether they want to be or not. “Panzer’s personality embodied someone who tended to make incredibly ill-conceived decisions, but whose commands were also obeyed without question, usually with very disastrous results,” explains Nemeth. “Keeping this in mind, I knew it would only be fitting for Panzer to be the center of the game; you almost want to hate him, but you can’t because he’s the player character!”
The Adventures of Panzer is an action platformer that takes place over five treacherous levels, each guarded by multiple bosses that will take considerable skill to defeat. Panzer has a sword and can shoot projectiles, as well as heal himself (but only if he has enough mana, which is restored through items you find in the levels). You can take Panzer out for a spin through the free demo posted on Itch,io, or if you’re lazy you can watch Nemeth play it:
The Kickstarter campaign for The Adventures of Panzer just launched yesterday, but it has already blown past its initial goal and will be clearing its first stretch goal before long. A digital copy of the game costs a $15 pledge, while a physical version takes a $60 pledge and includes the dust sleeve. The full nine yards (box and all) costs $80.
The Adventures of Panzer will be released in March of 2022. The crowdfunding campaign will be open until August 30.
