Circle Empires Gets Apex Monsters DLC
Watch your back…and your front…in fact all 360 degrees of you, because monsters are coming to developer Luminous’ real-time strategy game, Circle Empires. The game, which was released last August, takes place in a world made entirely of interconnected circles. As the leader of a small kingdom, you travel from one circle to another to expand your conquered territory and increase your personal collection of loot.
Everything is a circle in Circle Empires because Luminous founder Mihkel Trei heard once from a famous graphic designer that one should “Always start a design by drawing a circle,” and so he just took it literally. There are three ways to play Circle Empires: Monster Hunt mode, Full Conquest mode, and Imperial Conflict mode. These modes can be played on six difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, Hard, Extreme, Nightmare, and Impossible.
Now some seasonally appropriate monsters have arrived in the Apex Monsters DLC. Once you download it, here,s what you get:
- 6 new leaders to play as
- 12 new monsters to hunt down
- 21 new units (including unit classes)
- A new autumn themed biome
- All leaders have a new unit to recruitAI empires use the new units to wreak havoc of their own
In Apex Monsters!, hunt down a feared unicorn named Über, as you recruit wax monsters that spawn wax towers that shoot wax at your enemies (we could wax lyrical all day). Or recruit your own horny unicorns and fight Enormy the Enormous; a really dumb but (for some reason) widely revered Barbarian. Yeah, it’s all pretty weird, and there’s a lot more to discover.
Apex Monsters isn’t free DLC, but it might as well be: the price of admission is a lowly $1.99. If you can’t spare two bucks, there’s also a free Halloween update going on in the game right now that adds the ability to plant haunted pumpkins.
Circle Empires is available on Steam and GOG.
