Reports Suggest Nintendo NX Is Portable Console
A brand new report from Eurogamer claims to have insider information about the upcoming Nintendo NX. According to multiple sources that have revealed information to the outlet, the Japanese console will actually be a hybrid system that can act as both a home console and a portable handheld system.
Players will be able to take the Nintendo NX around with them as they travel as it is small and light enough to be carried. However, it is also powerful enough, thanks to the Nividia Tegra mobile processor, to be plugged into a television with a special dock that allows for gaming at home on a bigger screen. Uniquely, the controls that surround the screen of the platform can also be detached at any time.
Further information suggests that the Nintendo NX will use cartridges for games. This seems to confirm constant rumors that have teased the fact that the new console would move to a more traditional type of physical media instead of discs. This wouldn’t be so surprising considering how Nintendo’s previous handled systems have all used cartridges, including the recent 3DS. Of course, the platform will also allow players to download games via digital distribution.
Lastly, the NX is expected to launch next March and feature a far simpler marketing message. In contrast to the rather confusing message for the Wii U, the NX will instead be advertised as the console that allows you to take your games with you on the go.
While none of this has been officially confirmed by the Japanese publisher, the sheer number of sources who have confirmed many of the details would seem to indicate that it could be true. A purported unveiling of the Nintendo NX is expected in September, so confirmation of the handheld aspect would likely come then.
