Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Has Realistic Mode That Kills You In One Shot
Even if you haven’t been gaming all that long you will probably have friends or have heard someone online say that games are much easier than they used to be in the good old days. According to these people, back then every title was challenging and didn’t hold your hand throughout the story mode. Instead, you were left to make your own way and die painfully hundreds of times. It looks like someone at developer Treyarch believes this too because they have introduced a brand new difficulty mode into Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 that will be devilishly hard, as the player will die if they are hit with just one bullet.
This new mode, called Realistic difficulty, will meant that “you have one point of life, so if you’re shot once, you’re dead,” director Jason Blundell said to Xbox Achievements, adding that you’ll have to survive as a group. “You end up respecting the level in a completely different way, and once gunfire opens up, everyone just drops to the ground, because if any one bullet hits you or a grenade goes off near you, you’re dead.”
There will also be an achievement tied to completing the game on Realistic difficulty, although we doubt many people will be putting themselves through the stress of avoiding gunfire for seven hours in Black Ops 3 to unlock it.
In a separate interview with Eurogamer, Blundell also revealed that the studio is taking a different approach to the campaign than they have done in the past. While the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will have no story mode at all, the Xbox One, PC and Playstation 4 ports will allow the player to play any level they want from the start as every mission will be unlocked from the get go.
“It gives them the flexibility to consume the content how they want,” Blundell said. “The unlocking level system is an archaic mentality we’ve had since we did bedroom development back in the day – you do this, then go on to the next one.
“Consumers and game players in general are far more mature these days. There are so many things vying for our interests today. It’s about, how do they want to consume it? Maybe they put it down on level two, and then they’re in work the next day, and some guy says, ‘dude, you’ve got to check out level four!’ And he’s like, ‘okay, I’ll have a quick look.’ That’s totally fine. I think it’s their choice.”
