Blu-ray and DVD, Why some people still buy them?
Blu-Ray and DVDs don’t sell as much as before because streaming platforms are cheaper. The price range depends on countries but a $20 Blu-ray is worth 2 months of Netflix subscription in my country. For the Price of 1 movie, I can watch thousands of content for a month or 2 depending on the subscription package I chose. Despite the convenience of streaming services and video on demand, there are still people who buy physical copies of movies. Why?
Here are the reasons why some people still buy DVD and Blu-Ray:
Not everyone can afford to have an internet connection
In some countries, Not only internet is slow, but it is also expensive. There are still countries in the world that are enduring internet connection that is even slower than 1 Mbps. DVD and Blu-Ray are still relevant in those countries that are not blessed with fast internet connections. If people from those regions tried to use Netflix, they will experience buffering from hell.
Some people are collectors
There is a reason why Vinyl suddenly has a resurgence, People like physical copies they can touch. Having a collection is a fun rewarding feeling. It is comparable to people who still buy books despite the existence of kindle. Fans of Physical books like the feel and smell of a fresh brand new book. It is the same feeling for people who collects disks. Some films are still not available in digital format. In Japan, Physical copies of music and movies are still relevant because they never made them available digitally.
Alternate Endings and Behind the scenes footages
Something streaming platforms don’t have that DVDs and Blu-rays have are the extra features. A lot of movies have alternate endings and these alternate endings are still not available on Streaming services. There are also Behind the scenes extras that are only available in Physical copies.
