Bloomberg Still Thinks Nintendo Is Planning A 4K Switch
Remember when, for months upon months, there were repeated rumors of a “Switch Pro” model being secretly worked on at Nintendo? Every few weeks we’d hear it again: “A very secret inside source that’s never wrong has informed me Nintendo will debut a Switch Pro at E3.” E3 comes and goes. “There’s definitely a Switch Pro, people have personally witnessed it roll off the assembly line at the manufacturing plants, we’ll hear more at TGS.” TGS comes and goes. “Okay, but THIS time…”
Finally something arrived that would seem to put an end to it: an actual upgraded Switch model, but the only upgrade in it was a slightly larger OLED screen. It’s due out October 8. We declared the mystery solved and moved on with our lives. But…someone hasn’t. “HEY YOU GUYS THIS TIME IT’S REALLY TRUE…”
Today we have stale rumors all over the sites, yet again, of a 4K Switch Pro. Where are these stories coming from anyway? Who keeps doing this, and why do we keep listening? The culprit is Takashi Mochizuki of Bloomberg.com, who has been the source of these reports multiple times. This time he swears over eleven game developers, including one (Zynga) that does not even make games for the Switch, all possess 4K game development kits for a future Switch model, and have for a while now.
Nintendo has pointedly denied this latest rumor. So let’s just ignore Mochizuki, and maybe he’ll go away. Except….Nintendo has denied things before that it turned right around and admitted were real less than a month later. The 3DS XL, for example. And while selling a real upgrade right after a fake one is a terrible business decision, it would not be out of character for Nintendo….
DAMMIT! You can never be TRULY sure, can you? We’ll be back to report on the Switch Pro again in three months.
