The Black Widow Movie Could Actually Happen
For years patrons of Marvel’s superhero movies have been wondering: where’s the solo outing for Black Widow? Late last year Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed that Avengers 4 would be the final film to focus on the original cast and that everything would change afterward….seemingly driving the final nail in the coffin for anyone’s hopes.
But wait…what’s this? News from Variety that Marvel has hired someone to write a script for this movie? Better late than never! The writer who’s now tackling this task is Jac Schaeffer, described as a “Black List screenwriter” (I don’t know what that is, because it can’t mean “suspected of being a communist” anymore).
This reveals something about Black Widow’s future — unless they’re talking about a prequel, it sort of spoils her fate in Avengers 4. That movie is being filmed as we speak, and if we’re just now talking about a Black Widow movie, it means Romanoff must live through that film.
Of course Natasha is tough enough to take on Thanos without any superpowers and live. Was there ever any doubt? Variety cautions that just because Marvel is exploring a script doesn’t mean the movie has been greenlit. But it’s more encouraging than the previous status of “nothing.”
