Black Panther: Angela Bassett Joins the Cast
The cast for Marvel’s Black Panther continues to grow. Marvel Entertainment has just dropped another major piece of casting news for the upcoming Black Panther movie. Academy Award-nominated actress Angela Bassett has officially signed onto the film in a very important role.
Bassett (American Horror Story) will portray Ramonda, the mother of T’Challa, who is now the king of Wakanda and the Black Panther, its protector. This is not the first comic book outing for Bassett. She previously portrayed Amanda Waller in the 2011 Green Lantern movie. Bassett joins the cast opposite Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, and Florence Kasumba.
Bassett is a great actress, and she’s a tremendous addition to a cast that’s already pretty fantastic and filled with highly acclaimed actors. Bassett will certainly add a regal and royal quality to the picture, not to mention the role of Ramonda. Ramonda was not formerly introduces in Captain America: Civil War, so this should also add a great level of depth to T’Challa’s backstory, since his mother will be a widow to the slain King T’Chaka.
The upcoming film will be directed by Ryan Coogler. It’s due to arrive on February 16, 2018.
