Black Lightning Showrunner Would Like Static Shock In Show
While the main DC/CWverse shows are coming back next season, the midseason is going to bring another DC Comics superhero to the spotlight in Black Lightning. The show is already teasing some connections to the DC Comics universe at large, but as Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow have shown, that’s only the beginning. We know that other DC Comics characters coming into the show should it go beyond its initial order…but who?
Well, if it’s up to showrunner Salim Akil, he would love to bring another electric African-American hero into the mix: Static Shock.
“I love the idea of Static Shock, and in success, hopefully, we’ll be able to pull other characters in that way,” Akil said. “So I’m holding out hope because I love that character.” he said at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas.
Funnily enough, Static Shock has long been rumored for a live-action TV debut, including via a special internet show run by DC Comics, but nothing ever came of it. In the animated series Young Justice, Static and Black Lightning knew each other, and Lightning was a mentor of sorts for Static. Could that be what happens here? We’ll just have to wait and see.
