Battlefield 3: PC and PS3 Comparison.
Today the PS3 demo of BattleField 3 was shown off. Here are a few picture showing off some of the differences between the PC and the PS3 version. Not only does some of the lighting look different, but literally some of the buildings are completely different.
The screens aren’t High res, but it’ll still give you an idea of the differences between both versions. You may also watch both videos in HD at the end of this post.
UPDATED:
We Have added a few more High-Res Screens (Thanks to the guys at EA Forums). You’ll notice a much bigger difference between Console and PC towards the end of the post.
Although th PC version is lacking the fire on the side of the building, you’ll notice far much more trees, building, and even enemies in the PC shot.
PS3
Notice in the last shots the building are completely different. Even the ones in the background are. And although the PS3 footage is a bit blurry you can still notice the difference in texture. Perhaps they are different Builds of the demo.
Here are some much Higher Resolution Shots.
PC
Here HD footage of the PS3 version:

Not bad from the PS3 ( due to still being in Pre-Alpa stages ). The finished version will look even better. ( DICE said so themselves ).

So you have terrible quality offscreen grabs for both versions of the game that don’t do justice to either one (pc version loses it’s great IQ and AA and you can’t see the texture quality anymore, ps3 version looks way more blurry and bad than it is).
F ing blogs pretending to be journalists, I regret giving you losers a click.

“The screens aren’t High res, but it’ll still give you an IDEA OF THE DIFFERENCES between both versions. You may also watch both videos in HD at the end of this post.”
Along with the fact that we point out that the builds might be different by highlighting that some of the buildings are different. We never stated this was a graphical comparison as you can see that in the intro:
” Not only does some of the lighting look different, but literally some of the buildings are completely different.”
and
” Notice in the last shots the building are completely different. Even the ones in the background are. And although the PS3 footage is a bit blurry you can still notice the difference in texture. Perhaps they are different Builds of the demo.”
Also notice the HD Vidoe Linking that we mention is at the bottom before we show off the pictures?
The shots may not be the best, but it shows enough detail to see whats there and what isn’t.

The real disappointment is the lack of DOF and blur, which is what people are complaining about. This is something that was done easily and made popular in 2007 with Modern Warfare running at 60FPS. While I know DOF and any kind of blur tend to be difficult features to implement, it’s hard to believe that this close to release using the PS3 as the lead dev platform that they simply haven’t. However, I’m impressed with the +40 constant FPS–it would probably drop tremendously with DOF it it wasn’t implemented correctly.

How is this suprising to people? Of course its going to look better on PC over a $300 console. The better hardware is there to be used to create such great environments to battle in, with HD graphics, more things going on etc – so of course they are going to have to make map changes / cut effects to squeeze it in to 5+ year old designed console hardware, otherwise it will run crappy.
It still looks great tho, and far better than anything on console now. Especially the old COD engine and BC2 / Frostbite 1.0. Dont forget all the vehicles and destruction too in BF3!!
Looks like DICE are doing a great job for all platforms. Kudos boys.

Notice the different time of day! First picture pair shows it best.
Check the laundry and its shadow – middle top.
Check the sun on heap of tires – middle right, and that there is no shadow on the street light.
Check the light on the car – middle right (shadow/direct sun)
Check the shadow from air conditioner.
Check the palm tree and its shadow – proof that the sun shines on it.
Shadows from horizontal objects – won’t move much at mid day.

Well the graphic on the computer on the buildings are better than the ps3’s! But on the ps3 the gun and everything is better as guns are really bright they are quite dark!

Call of duty barely runs 60fps with framerate dips. Cod is not even HD resolution at all it’s actually 640p

Dear Friends
Thank you all for sharing your experience or knowledge…..I was about to purchase PS3 EXCLUSIVELY for BF2/3 games. I am a die hard fan of this awesome game for over 7 years 😛
So now I will buy any one of DELLs XPS model and enjoy my BF2/3. I had checked on DELLs ALIENWARE which far too expensive for me, so I thought I would go for an XPS lappy… Any comments on this huh?
Thanks and best regards
Fahim

Sorry man I have no input on the Computer. I myself am still considering of buying a computer for gaming. From what I heard and gotten from my friend Gaming Laptops are just far to expensive. I don’t typically like gaming on the go with Laptops and prefer todo that stuff at home. If your really being serious and IDK which Laptop it is, but if it’s the $800 ones I suggest you build your own Desktop computer. Seek help, and for just a little less than $800(maybe even lower then $600) you could be building a PC that could play it all without issues.
