Bastardization of Public domain characters
When a work of fiction becomes public domain, it can be used in any form of media production. That includes books, movies, and television shows. To use these characters in any medium, you do not need a license from the Estate.Their creators had been dead for at least 70 years.There are no longer any legal heirs to the property, so the licenses are not renewed.
You may have noticed that the most recent Disney Princesses are all new characters if you’ve been paying attention. This is because Disney has stopped using fairy tale characters. The company does not have exclusive rights to use them. So their competitions can make their own versions.
Because they belong to the people, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Rapunzel can be recreated by anyone. However, Disney owns Merida, Tiana, Moana, Raya, and Elsa because they were conceived by Disney. Therefore, you cannot use more modern characters.
Since Disney doesn’t own the rights for Snow White, The Rock Band Rammstein made a music video a decade ago where Snow White is evil.
We can debate whether Jesus exists or not but he is Public domain. So religious people are not able to stop the existence of this movie. A romance movie starring Jesus. Yes this is an old movie years before I was born.
Bastardization of Public domain characters
Numerous filmmakers delight in perverting public domain characters. It’s a publicity stunt intended to attract notice. They use these household name characters who are free to use so they can instantly get an audience but their interpretations crosses the line.
Mad Heidi
Mad Heidi is an ultraviolent dystopian action film that is a reboot of the children’s classic Heidi. Heidi is this fun loving little girl who lives in the Alps with her grandpa who farms goats and sheep for making cheese and butter. She is close friends with Peter. Heidi got so popular that Japan made an Anime series about her. She is the reason why Germany and Switzerland have high number of tourist from Japan. Well, this movie made a children’s classic into a gorefest.
Violent Night
When we were little children, Our parents makes us believe Santa Claus. He is a jovial, overweight senior who resembles everyone’s favorite granddad. We endeavored to be on our best behavior throughout the year in order to receive the gifts. David Harbour portrays Santa is a way we never seen before. Yes Santa will be killing people on this movie.
