Ash vs Evil Dead Already Renewed for Second Season
Ash vs Evil Dead has not even premiered on TV yet, but it’s already been confirmed to get a second season. Starz officially announced today that the premium network is greenlighting a second season of the series ahead of its October 31 broadcast premiere. It is not uncommon for Starz to already greenlight sophomore seasons of its new TV shows ahead of their respective premieres or early into their first seasons. The news will likely be welcome to fans who will watch the show knowing a second season is already set.
Starz went ahead with ordering a second season to due to “strong fan, affiliate and distributor demand for the highly-anticipated premiere of Ash vs Evil Dead.” The show is the long-awaited follow-up to Sam Raimi’s classic horror Evil Dead Trilogy, starring Bruce Campbell as Ash. Executive producers and original filmmakers Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell will all return to work on the second season. Campbell will continue in his role of Ash Williams, the aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter. Lucy Lawless is also scheduled to return in the second season as Ruby, an enigmatic figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Deadite outbreaks.
Speaking on the announcement, Starz managing director Carmi Zlotnik stated: “One season isn’t enough to satisfy the fans’ two decade-long appetite for more Ash. The early fan and press support, along with the international broadcaster demand for more story have made it clear that the adventures of Ash Williams can’t end with season one.”
Per the deal, Starz will retain all domestic and international multiplatform rights for the series, including TV, home entertainment and digital. Ash vs Evil Dead Season 1 will consist of 10 half-hour episodes.
