It is the Twitter account of the Paul Anderson RE movies, and that makes me worry. This movie promises to be closer to the source material. They promise to have actual canon characters instead of a self insert Mary sue like Alice. Alice never existed in the games. That’s why there is a hostile division between game fans and Alice fans.
What do game fans feel about Alice? Let’s say there is a movie titled Batman, but when you watched the movie, Batman is not there. A fanfiction character replaces him instead. Then in the sequels, Batman becomes the sidekick of the fanfiction character.
A Netflix original tv series makes more sense as canonical adaptation of the game’s storyline. Condensing Resident evil 1 and 2 into one movie sounds like a disaster.
This Reboot will finally use Original Resident evil characters as the lead. Now here is the problem, it is an adaptation of Resident evil 1 and 2. Those two games are months apart in the timeline. How can you merge them into one movie? Resident evil Zero and Resident evil 1 is the right games to amalgamate for a movie script because they happen on the same time frame. Resident evil 2 and 3 also makes sense together because they are both happen on the Raccoon City incident.
Leon Kennedy’s love interest is Ada Wong and there is no casting announcement on who plays Ada. This gives me a feeling Leon will be paired up with Claire. I really do this game will not disappoint fans and finally make a film that respects the lore the fans love. I also want the game characters to become mainstream in the non gaming pop culture. The Paul Anderson movies had disrespected them in favor of Alice, character designed after his wife and played by his wife.
