My Father’s Dragon is a highly popular children’s novel back in 1948. Ruth Stiles Gannett wrote it. It is success because it spawned two sequels. If this animated movie will deliver on Netflix’s expectations, we might get to see the sequels Elmer and the Dragon and The Dragons of Blueland have animations too. Jacob Tremblay who is going to play Flounder for the live-action adaption of the Little Mermaid gets the lead role. While waiting for that movie you can get a sneak peak of his voice acting talent on this film.
Manga publisher Kodansha has revealed three volumes it plans to publish digitally in English next month: Raised by the Demon Kings, The Cafe Terrace and its Goddesses, and Gamaran: Shuma. None are seasonally themed (well, that first one could be interpreted as such, but it’s not really “scary”).
Rick and Morty vs. Cthulhu seems like an idea whose time has come. Or rather, an idea that’s been teased as long as the show has existed. The final shot of the opening sequence in EVERY episode is Rick, Morty and Summer speeding away in a spaceship, being chased by Lovecraft’s most famous monster, who then swallows the screen. Like that box of “Time Travel Stuff,” it seems Cthulhu is a thing the show will forever tease but never actually do…which means it’s up to the comics.
I’ve mouthed off before about Sam Raimi throwing the character of Scarlet Witch under the bus in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. Not only does Wanda Maximoff suddenly turning murderous and crazy clash with all previous cinematic portrayals of her, the character is now damaged so badly it makes all future potential storylines impossible (assuming she even lived). My biggest problem is the fact that the MCU versions of these characters are the ones Average Joes will be most familiar with. I’ll have to run around with a sign that says “Scarlet Witch isn’t really like this!”
Vampire Academy is coming to Peacock this September 15, 2022. This drama fantasy explores the social stratification in a society inhabited by vampires. Sisi Stringer, who most recently portrayed Mileena in Mortal Kombat, will be donning fangs in the upcoming series. She will be playing the role of bloodsucker this time around.
In 1987, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird cooked up an interesting idea for a Ninja Turtles comic, The Last Ronin. For unknown reasons, however, they never got around to turning the script into a book. Decades later, IDW decided to resurrect the lost story and print it in the form of five trade-format volumes. The Last Ronin was concluded with #5 last April and more recently, IDW published the complete story in one hardcover volume.
Catherine, Called Birdy, is a Prime Video original, written and directed by actress Lena Dunham. It is an adaptation of a Karen Cushman novel of the same title. During the 1290s, child marriage was common in medieval England. The moment a young girl has her first menstrual cycle, she is eligible for marriage. Child marriages were shockingly the norm back then because women have no say on how to live their lives. It is nagging skeleton in every person’s family history. Bella Ramsey who got a lead role in upcoming the live action adaptation of “The last of us” snatched the role of Birdy.
Godzilla has had a comic book presence for decades, but under IDW’s licensor-ship, he’s mostly been socking around other IPs in crossover specials. But he DOES get his own solo adventures from time to time, and another one is coming up.
IDW has had the Star Trek license for a while, but for the most part they have based their stories on pre-existing variants of Trek, sticking to Kirk, Picard, and whoever else has served as captain of the bridge. But since there’s no shortage of official Trek shows these days, they’re gonna have to do something special to stand out. Introducing the all-new Star Trek #1, the first in an ongoing series with a brand-new, never-before-seen* crew.
Sonic got a gigantic celebratory party when he turned 30 last year, as everyone expected he would. His faithful sidekick, however, was introduced a year later and rarely ever gets any recognition. Would Tails get his own party, after everything he’s done for Sonic? IDW finally decided to answer “YES” to that question and put together the ultimate tribute to everyone’s favorite Player 2.
Over the past eight years, writers Vincenzo Ferriero and Ray Chou have been working on a dieselpunk airship adventure comic called Skies Of Fire. The whole story is just eight issues long, but it’s very epic in scale, with intricate art by Pablo Peppino and Bryan Valenza bringing the story to life.
